Battle of the celebrity bakers marks magazine’s 100th issue

To celebrate its 100th issue, top glossy food monthly delicious. magazine has a special twist: a choice of two covers.

Each cover depicts a fabulous cake, one invented by Paul Hollywood, the other by Mary Berry, baking gurus and co-presenters of BBC Two’s The Great British Bake Off.

Readers can choose which cover they prefer to pick up at the newsstand – and to make it more fun, delicious. has introduced an element of competition: the Ultimate Bake-Off.

Which will get the readers’ seal of approval: Paul’s ‘ultimate carrot cake’, or Mary’s ‘very best chocolate and orange cake’?

Both recipes are in the magazine and readers are encouraged to vote for their favourite after baking them both and hosting a tasting session.

The magazine is expecting a huge Twitter and Facebook response as thousands of readers vote for their favourite cake and display their own baking efforts online.

Mary Berry has written more than 70 cookbooks and is a baking expert. Paul Hollywood is a second-generation artisan baker and author of 100 Great Breads.

Karen Barnes, editor of delicious. magazine, says: “Baking has become a phenomenon in the UK, partly due to the recession as people spend more time at home and rediscover the joys of home cooking – and partly because of the success of programmes like The Great British Bake Off. Cake-making is something anyone can do with the right, simple recipe – and it’s affordable, which gives it universal appeal. We’re looking forward to seeing which cover attracts the biggest sales and which cake is the most popular.”

The 100^th issue – the March 2012 issue – goes on sale on Wednesday 1 February.
